Saif Ali Khan recently attended the trailer launch of Kartavya in Mumbai along with the film’s cast and crew, where he opened up about his career, perception in the industry, and how past roles continue to shape audience expectations even today. The upcoming Netflix crime drama has already generated buzz, and Saif’s candid comments at the event added even more attention to the project.

During an interaction at the launch, Saif was asked whether any part of his iconic Omkara character “Langda Tyagi” still exists within him, or if his new character in Kartavya carries similar shades of intensity and duty. Responding with honesty and humor, Saif said that any perceived connection is more about audience perception than personal overlap. He pointed out how actors are often quickly judged or boxed into fixed categories based on previous performances, especially after strong character-driven roles.

Saif reflected on how his performance in Omkara became a turning point in how people viewed him as an actor. He said that director Pulkit likely revisited that film while casting Kartavya and realized he had the range to handle a grounded, desi style of dialogue and performance. “People are very quick to pigeonhole others,” Saif noted, adding that audiences often assume limitations based on background, accent, or image, rather than artistic ability.

The actor also credited filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj for helping redefine his career with Omkara, saying the film played a major role in changing how the industry perceives him. Saif expressed gratitude for that shift, stating that such roles allow actors to break stereotypes and explore more complex characters. He further shared that his new role in Kartavya continues that journey, especially with its intense, dialogue-heavy, and rooted storytelling style.

Produced by Gauri Khan under Red Chillies Entertainment, Kartavya is a crime drama written and directed by Pulkit. The film stars Saif Ali Khan alongside Rasika Dugal, Sanjay Mishra, Saurabh Dwivedi, Zakir Hussain, and Manish Chaudhari in key roles. The film was announced on February 3, 2026, by Netflix and is set to release on May 15, 2026.

With Saif Ali Khan drawing a line between past perceptions and present performances, Kartavya is shaping up as more than just a crime thriller — it’s also a continuation of an actor’s evolving relationship with audience expectations, legacy roles, and reinvention.
